With a back catalogue that starts in 1978 on A Factory Sampler and extends to over 20 albums, you might expect the Durutti Column output to slow down to New Orderesque pace. Vini Reilly, however, seems to have found a third wind in recent years, with solo albums such as Keep Breathing recapturing not only the muse of his 80s and 90s magnificence but also the ears of a new generation of fans.
Despite a front cover depicting him lying in bed (his natural state, long time collaborator and drummer Bruce Mitchell might say), this album is far from bone idle. Reilly has always had a captivating guitar sound that spirals through prisms of classical, Spanish and Barrett-edged sharpness, which is always melodically and sonically inventive.
